What a joke. This place is the most over-hyped cesspool on the planet. Let's see how you all feel about a year after moving here, especially the single mom, with the salary of $34,000 per year. Stay where you are. Believe me, it is NOT worth it.

There is no greater feeling than giving back to the less fortunate and underprivileged. It is the basic fundamental principle of humanity to give of ones self. In the Bible 1 Corinthians 13ch. it reads; "And now abideth faith, hope, charity, these three; but the greatest of these is charity." Whether it financial giving’s, or giving time within a community, those who help to fight poverty are worthy of a star in their crown.

Hi! I am trying quite hard to find a good nonprofit job in marketing or development, but I feel that I am at the same time both over and under qualified for most jobs because I hold a JD and BBA in marketing, but have less than 2 full years of experience with paid nonprofit work. I've been told outright I am a 'flight risk' because of my education. Despite being extremely frustrated with employers being immediately suspect of my genuine desire to work for a purposeful organization (because I'm probably 'just waiting for something better to come along'), I do not regret my educational decisions. Rather, I just want to give up on trying to explain it to those who don't really understand what a JD really is. Should I consider a master's in nonprofit management? I love learning and always want to master my craft, but I don't want to waste time and resources if experience (which no one will give me) is the only thing that will help me.

Love this! I've been saying for years that careers have nothing to do with your major, or even the college you attend. It's all about the internships and experience you have. That's why internships are huge in college. Degrees are more like the minimum requirement, not necessarily the key to a job.

Having studied Arts Studies, I have always said that your major isn't the most important factor in determining your career. Though I have seen that some majors are more in demand and create more opportunity, I agree that, particularly for liberal arts majors, self-determination, experience and network become the deciding factors. I love the idea of beefing up college career programs that are more in touch with current practices such as slash careers. Thanks Allison!
